OBITUARY
There passed away at Dungog Hospital on the 3/10/48 the wife of Mr. Cecil Bruce Bowden, of Stroud Road. Born at Stroud 44 years ago, she was the second youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alf Stokes, of Stroud. The deceased (nee Edna Gwendoline) was married at St. John's Church of England Stroud to Mr. C. B. Bowden son of the late Mr and Mrs. Thomas Bowden, of Stroud, on the 22nd April, 1925, by the Rev. Canon A. G. Knox, B.A., thereby connecting two of the oldest pioneer families of Stroud. There were no children of the union.
At St. John's Church on 5th inst., the Rector, Rev. Blakemore spoke to a large congregation of the factt that 44 years ago the deceased was baptised in this church and said that the large gathering in the church that day and the large number of floral tributes were testimony in themselves of the deceased's sterling character. She was highly respected and loved by all who knew her as one of a smiling, happy and lovable nature, and her life was lived for her husband and friends.
The cortege then travelled to the Church of England cemetery, being one of the largest seen at Stroud for many years. The Rector officiated at the graveyard and very feelingly committed the body to the ground. To the sad husband, relatives and friends deepest heartfelt sympathy is extended.
