Mid North Coast Pioneers - Newcastle to Lismore and beyond

Shared note

I have been contacted by a number of people querying the subject marriage address in old marriage records. From a very brief and superficial research into this, I will make the following comments.

St. Luke's Anglican Church in Burton Street, Concord, was consecrated in May 1861, with the foundation stone having been laid in October 1859. Additions were made in 1867 and 1869.

I am not aware of the current street address of this church, but no doubt street numbers have changed since the Church was built.

Clearly this church would have been a relatively long way from the centre of Sydney in the mid to late 1800's. Around these times it was known as the "Free Church of England". Perhaps this was a reason for people from outside the district to be married there.

May be there was also a Burton Street in Sydney around those times, but in my quick research, I could not find one.

My parents were married at St. Luke's, Concord, in 1935.
