"Excerpt from "Clarence River Pioneers Who came in Sailing Ships From Highlands of Scotland" Daily Examiner, july 16th 1943 . Born 24th october 1858 at Taree NSW. At around the turn of the century he travelled to new Zealand and was employed as a carpenter. he met and married Miss Julia Henham, a native of New Zealand in 1901 and after residing in New Zealand for approximately 9 years, he brought his wife and 4 daughters back to NSW and purchased a farm on the Clarence River. two more children were born to Donald and Julia Macdonald and in 1918 at the age of 60, Donald Macdonald retired with his family to Grafton, 33 Villiers Street. They later moved to 61 Queen St Grafton where he died on April 15th 1937 aged 78 years.""
