Established "Avon Farm"
between 1909 and 1937 (Age 34)
Address: Shannon Brook
Text:

George soon tired of the Town life and purchased the 176 acre farming property which he originally named "Avon Dale".With his younger son Eric they established a Guernsey Cattle Stud in 1927 and changed the name to "Avon Farm".

George & Mary took a keen interest in the District's progress, donating a portion of the property for the establishment of St.James,Church of England Church and the Shannon Brook school, which was relocated to the site in 1914.Their children were educated at the school and on occassions, teachers from the school boarded at the Rann household. Three of their daughters were married in the church and two of the girls regularly played the organ for the church services. George was a church warden and a local councillor for several years before becoming Tomki Shire President from 1921 to 1923.

In 1937 following a severe illness, George left the property in son Eric's hands and he & Mary moved to the Sydney suburb of Epping, where 3 of their daughters were living. They lived here until their deaths.
