Extract from History of Bexhill, Corndale, Numulgi, page 72 HAVILAH FAMILY Eugene “Jim” Havilah was born in the Azores Islands and worked as a Captain’s boy on a ship from the time he was 7. He received his education from the Captains. Whilst working on a whaling ship around Tasmania he deserted the ship when it called in Sydney. He settled in Corndale and his wife lived at Tuncester until a home was built at Corndale. He and Mr. Bailey were the first settlers so far up the creek.
