1850's: ▪ Louisa is recorded in the 1851 Census of of Wales at the age of 12 years and as a "Scholar", meaning she is at school. Her name is spelled "Leuaza". ▪ Her residence is again "Varteg Hill", the same place as in the 1941 Census. ▪ Sarah Haines (nee Winwood) is now recorded as Sara Davies, wife, age 45, (b 1806) and the Head of House as Edward Davies, age 30 (b 1821), there is considerable difference in age. This is the first recorded note of a marriage to Edward Davies. ▪ Sarah's daughter, Maria Haines, has left home as she is not recorded in this document. ▪ Evidently, William Haines is deceased, however, I have been unable to find a record for him (3 Jan 2011). It is possible he was killed in a mining accident, but I have no evidence to substantiate it. ▪ On 2 July 1857, sister Maria Haines, arrived in Sydney N.S.W. on the ship "Glen Isla".

NOTE: Maria's surname is spelled "HAYNES" on the NSW BDM marriage index. Refer to BDM Registration No: 2667/1858. Marriage was registered in the NSW BDM Registration district of Shoalhaven, NSW.

They both did indeed arrived in Australia on the ship "Great Tasmania" which departed Liverpool, England in May 1860 under the control of the Master M Flynn.

Both Sarah and Louisa had "contracted" to disembark at the port of Geelong, Victoria. It appears they duly did and the the ship arrived on 15 August 1860.

It will now be necessary for your to alter the information on their lading slightly.

In the 1841 census, children's ages are accurate, adults ages are rounded to the nearest 10 years, so there is a fair window of time for William's birth. ▪ Her mother Sarah, is noted as 40 years old.

1850's: ▪ Louisa is recorded in the 1851 Census of of Wales at the age of 12 years and as a "Scholar", meaning she is at school. Her name is spelled "Leuaza". ▪ Her residence is again "Varteg Hill", the same place as in the 1941 Census. ▪ Sarah Haines (nee Winwood) is now recorded as Sara Davies, wife, age 45, (b 1806) and the Head of House as Edward Davies, age 30 (b 1821), there is considerable difference in age. This is the first recorded note of a marriage to Edward Davies. ▪ Sarah's daughter, Maria Haines, has left home as she is not recorded in this document. ▪ Evidently, William Haines is deceased, however, I have been unable to find a record for him (3 Jan 2011). It is possible he was killed in a mining accident, but I have no evidence to substantiate it. ▪ On 2 July 1857, sister Maria Haines, arrived in Sydney N.S.W. on the ship "Glen Isla".

I have today received a copy of the shipping records related to SARAH DAVIES and her daughter LOUISA HAYNES

They both did indeed arrived in Australia on the ship "Great Tasmania" which departed Liverpool, England in May 1860 under the control of the Master M Flynn.

Both Sarah and Louisa had "contracted" to disembark at the port of Geelong, Victoria. It appears they duly did and the the ship arrived on 15 August 1860.

It will now be necessary for your to alter the information on their lading slightly.

If you wish, I can scan the papers and send you a copy.
