"His father William was the 3rd son of the Rector of Loughton, Buckinghamshire John Athawes and he was very well respected in the community and in other very important circles. William even though i imagine well educated became a tenant farmer and sometimes referred to as a "Gentleman Farmer." With what i gather the aim to own his own land and home at some point but sadly this did not come about and they moved around a lot. Caroline also came from a very well established family with her father being a Surgeon in the Army and serving for many years out in India."
