In part:

"25 Dec 1858. James, wife Sarah and Baby Margaret were drowned in the Paterson River. *Neil Gillies and Henry Tattersall made failed attempt to save them,these two men recovered the bodies. (Tattersall is writers direct x/s grandfather.) The coroner commended Tattersall for his bravery. Alex.McGilvray was witness to Sarah/s burial. Henry Tattersall was the informant on Sarah.s d/c. *Note on H Tatt, He and his wife Rhoda took John and James in and raised them,I have photos of these two in later years These two boys later changed their surname to GRIFFIS."
