THE MANNING RIVER TIMES Wednesday, 2 May 1906

OBITUARY Mrs John Cheers

It is with deep regret that we record the death of Mrs John Cheers which took place at her mother’s residence “Fairview” near Krambach on Thursday last, at the early age of 22 years. The deceased, who up to a few weeks ago, had resided at Bungwahl, was recently under medical treatment at Mrs G Scrivner’s, Taree, for dropsy and heart disease from which she had been suffering for some time. Dr Gormley could hold out no hope of the patient’s recovery, and acting on her wish, Mrs Cheers was taken to Fairview only a few days before her death. She leaves a sorrowing husband and a little girl two years of age to mourn their great loss.

The remains were taken to Bullock Wharf on Thursday where they were placed on board Mr Wright’s oil launch, Jap, and conveyed to the head of Wallis Lake-the lengthy journey of about 40 miles being accomplished speedily and without mishap. The remains were interred in the Naranie Cemetery, near Bungwahl on Friday, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends.- the Rev A Phillips conducting the service. The deceased was the daughter of Mr N Godwin. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved.
