"The surname Wear (or as the locals said, ‘Wares’) appears very early in land ownership at Boolambayte, which is at the top of Myall Lakes. James Wear purchased lot 76 on 28 Feb 1859 and in later years others named Wear gained title of land in close proximity to the original holding. As best I have found, the Wears were title holders of at least 12 lots, totalling more than 600 acres. (for location, see copy of part of Parish Map - Bulahdelah - 3rd ed)."

In part:

"James Wear died in 1875 (NSW BDM: 9325/1875 Ware, James / father not listed / mother = Ann / reg. at Port Stephens). Although DC was not checked, I am confident that James was buried in an old, abandoned cemetery at Boolambayte. A few decades ago I saw his headstone. The inscription was almost illegible and my notes simply say, “James Wear D. 1875 (or poss. 1878)”."
