Note: Frank served his apprenticeship as a French Polisher with Murray’s Funeral Parlour at Broadmeadow; he also spent some time at their cabinet-making workshop. He spent most of his working life at Newcastle’s B.H.P. main office, where as a French polisher he worked on office furniture and furniture repairs aboard B.H.P. ships. He was one of the last original old time French polishers around Newcastle and was sort after by many of the B.H.P. managers to work on their family furniture. In 1954, Queen Elizabeth II toured Australia and this included a visit to the Newcastle steelworks. One of the highlights of Frank’s time at B.H.P. was French polishing the toilet seat in case she needed to go to the toilet.
