"Referring to Elizabeth Manion, the wife of Patrick Manion H.M.14 Regiment who died in childbirth - Daily Southern Cross Volume XXI, 4 October 1865 Page 5 contains a Coroner's Inquest into the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Manion. Dying in New Zealand. Patrick Manion then married a Sarah Connors in Hobart on 2 Sept 1867 Registration # 276."

George Michael Manion was the first son of Patrick and Sarah Mannion. Born in County Kerry, Ireland, he and his family went to New Zealand in 1860 and stayed until 1867 where his father was a sergeant in the 2nd Battalion of the 14th Royal Regiment of Foot and fought in the 1st and 2nd Maori Wars. They were then were relocated to Australia where his father renained until his discharge in 1870. The name was changed to Manion at this point. They settled in Tasmania but George Michael moved to Sydney in 1873. He married Alice Mary Fletcher in 1874 and joined the Sydney Water Police where he remained for 30 years until retirement in 1908. He remarried in 1895 after his first wife Alice Mary died in 1894. Alice and George had 13 children. He had another 5 children with his second wife. He died of advanced senility in 1946 in The Lidcombe State Hospital aged 95 and was cremated at Woronora Crematorium.
