1850's: ▪ Louisa is recorded in the 1851 Census of of Wales at the age of 12 years and as a "Scholar", meaning she is at school. Her name is spelled "Leuaza". ▪ Her residence is again "Varteg Hill", the same place as in the 1941 Census. ▪ Sarah Haines (nee Winwood) is now recorded as Sara Davies, wife, age 45, (b 1806) and the Head of House as Edward Davies, age 30 (b 1821), there is considerable difference in age. This is the first recorded note of a marriage to Edward Davies. ▪ Sarah's daughter, Maria Haines, has left home as she is not recorded in this document. ▪ Evidently, William Haines is deceased, however, I have been unable to find a record for him (3 Jan 2011). It is possible he was killed in a mining accident, but I have no evidence to substantiate it. ▪ On 2 July 1857, sister Maria Haines, arrived in Sydney N.S.W. on the ship "Glen Isla".
